ORIGIN OF IGBO WORLD UNION (IWU)
The Igbo World Union started as Igbo Union, which was the foremost Igbo Unifying and umbrella organization of Ndigbo Dum particularly in the 1930s to 1970s. The vision of establishing an organization that unifies the Igbo brotherhood and unity worldwide just as the former Igbo Union was invented by His Imperial Majesty Amb. Sir, Dr. Mishak Nnanta (Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum) in the year 2009. The Igbo Union as we all know was the rallying point of Ndigbo in the 1930s-1960s before the Civil War. The aftermath of the civil war among other calamities that was associated with it was the demise of the Igbo union. Thus depriving the Igbo sense of unity and cohesion in pursuing a common front. Igbo State Union was in the words of a remarkable statesman and octogenarian, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi the umbrella platform that crystallizes and actualize Igbo dreams until the Civil War. Back to History, J.C. Obi was the President General, while V.C.I. Enene held sway as Secretary General. Equally, Messer Nwame and Agbawodikeizu where the principals of Aba and kano Igbo World Union Schools, back to those pre-war era, Igbo held major exalted positions due to their exemplary lifestyle, exceptional dedication to duties e.g. An Igbo man from Ajegunle Mr. Ebubedike won the Speaker to the Western House of Assembly Igbos had always believed in the unity and progress of the Nigerian State against the negative tendencies of other tribes that are at disparity. It is of note to state that the “Daura Akwunwafor” advice Igbo World Union to forge ahead with her cultural and ethical renaissance, never to allow financial or political inducements betray her noble goals and visions. It was in the quest to forge a formidable platform to promote Igbo unity and brotherhood that the Igbo World Union was formed as a common platform to revive the spirit of the old Igbo Union. The Igbo World Union (Worldwide) which was formally known as Igbo Union was transformed in February 2009 by Amb. Sir. Dr. Mishak Nnanta JP. The organization since its smooth transformation into Igbo World Union (IWU) has enjoyed supports from the Igbos in Diaspora. The elite leaders in Nigeria have been doing their best to finance the Union. As God almighty will have it, He knows that to finance Igbo Organizations in Diaspora is not easy task for the Igbos to maintain and consolidate their leadership role, God sent to us one of His anointed son the way Moses was sent to the people of Israel who himself came out of the masses to lead them to promise Land, that the man is no other person than Amb.
