THE ADDRESS BY THE PRESIDENT GENERAL IGBO WORLD UNION (IWU) HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY DR. MISHAK NNANTA JP. ON THE OCCASION OF HIS OFFICIAL VISIT TO HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI (GCFR) ON 15TH JULY 2015.
His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, (GCFR), the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, Represented by Femi Adesina, members of Senate, distinguished guest, members of the press, Ladies and Gentlemen greetings. Standing before you is the President General of Igbo World Union His Imperial Majesty Amb. Dr. Sir, Mishak Nnanta JP. Before I commence further on my speech, let me introduce the Igbo World Union and what it stands for.
Igbo World union is a socio-cultural organization with membership strength cut across the globe and she spawns the 36 states of Nigeria and beyond. Our objectives includes: nurturing and fostering understanding not just among the Igbo’s, but also with other ethnic groups. We pursue peaceful cohabitation between indigenes and non-indigenes, where the case may be irrespective of party, tribal or religious affiliations. IWU pushes for a continued progress and civilization of our Nigeria through consistent and persistent peace reforms and programme, not excluding our numerous official visits to different Monarch of various kingdoms across Nigeria. Our past activities are on record for scrutiny. IWU is aggressively canvassing for the return and reintegration of Nigerians in Diaspora, to assist in the task of Nation Building through culture and arts. Amongst which includes enhancing the improved and frequent use of vernacular, both oral and written. IWU is untiringly pushing for inclusive cultural values and ethical reorientation as a panacea and antidote for Nigeria youth’s involvement in criminality and other debasing tendencies of varying degrees, including the recent incursion of terrorism into Nigerian soil. IWU upholds the Igbo cultures, ethics and values, also teaches Ndigbo to continue to respect other people’s values and their right of living. We believe in the unity and progress of the Nigerian state. We appreciate his Excellency’s consistency, persistency and dogged perseverance over length of time that culminated in your recent victory in the past polls. Herein, we sincerely congratulate and celebrate your victory in the hard fought-well won polls as the undisputed hero and lion, well done. Your unbeaten record of patriotic dedication to duty in time past speaks volume. We the IWU hailed from different backgrounds in the south east and had heard cries of woe and witnessed first-hand the sufferings of our people, “Ndigbo” from the grassroots and their abandonment by subsequent governments at different levels, do implore your Excellency to please come to the aid of Ndigbo at the grassroots as Nigerians, by initiating and sustaining infrastructural development in that region. Also to avail patriotic Ndigbo of worth the opportunity to service our father land in your government.
As you inherit a beleaguered nation fraught with human induced problems of different dimensions that built clogs in the wheels of progress of our dear nation, we the Igbo World union cannot but pray that your administration succeeds where others failed, to lift Nigeria from her pariah Status in the comity of nations. We sincerely assure your government of IWU’s and Ndigbo’s total support and cooperation in all aspect of its governance for the betterment of Nigerians.
The Igbo World Union will encourage the build of bridges across all seas and pulling down walls of divide, that have plagued us throughout the chequered history of our dear nation. We condemn in totality every form of criminality, insecurity, ethnic bias anywhere in Nigeria against a citizen, corruption, religious persecutions and other anomalies that have barred Nigerians development. IWU gives his Excellency unflinching support as you tackle this menace head on while piloting the ship of the Nigerian State and when called upon, IWU will promote the programmes for a better Nigeria. IWU solicits Your Excellency’s unreserved supports morally and other wise as may be deemed necessary to continue our good works across Nigeria and for Nigerians May God’s Guidance, protection, wisdom and Good Health dwell with you and members of your executives as you forge Nigeria ahead.
